Piano removals in Manchester

A piano is heavy, awkward and sensitive to bumps. We plan the route, the crew size and the vehicle before we commit to moving your instrument across Manchester.

What’s included

Piano removals cover the instrument you name: upright, baby grand or full grand, from its current room to the new one. We bring padding, straps and trolleys suited to weight, and enough crew to keep the piano balanced on stairs. Grands may need legs and the lid prepared for transport; we agree that when we quote.

Floors on the carry route are protected where trolleys and feet pass. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book, including any value you want noted.

We do not tune, regulate or repair pianos. Book your tuner for a few days after the move once temperature and humidity have stabilised.

How our service works

Start with the piano type and honest photos of every step between rooms. Measure door widths if you can. We reply with a written quote, crew size and any conditions, valid for three months.

On the day we clear the path, pad corners and move at a pace that keeps control on landings. The piano is strapped in the vehicle away from loose boxes or sharp furniture edges. At the new address we reverse the process and place the piano where you want it, leaving space for the tuner.

If access is unsafe for the crew or the piano, we stop and discuss options rather than forcing a corner.

What affects the cost

Instrument size and weight come first. Grands cost more to handle than uprights. Stairs dominate local jobs: the same piano on the ground floor is a different quote from the third floor.

Distance adds vehicle time and strapping checks on the road. City-centre apartments need lift bookings and sometimes a longer carry from parking. Tuning is never part of the removal price.

Piano moves across Manchester

Teaching pianos in Chorlton and Didsbury Victorian houses often meet narrow hall turns. Student and family homes in Withington may have uprights on upper floors with shared stairs. City-centre flats need lift dimensions confirmed before we agree a date.

Our Manchester removals overview links piano work with house and furniture moves when the piano is part of a larger home relocation.

Before the tuner arrives

Leave space around the piano for airflow and allow a few days for strings to settle after the road. Do not polish the case heavily on arrival; minor marks from blankets are checked when we unload. If your building requires floor protection beyond our mats, send the rule when you quote so we arrive compliant rather than delaying at reception.

What affects the cost

Upright or grand

Grands often need leg and lid work plus more space in the van. Uprights still need two or three strong carriers on stairs.

Stairs and landings

A straight flight is manageable. Spiral stairs or tight turns may mean we decline or ask for a specialist hoist arranged by you.

Distance

A local move keeps the piano on the truck for less time. Long journeys need stricter securing and timing.

Ground conditions

Gravel drives, steep garden steps or no lift in a block all add handling time.

Tuning after the move

We move the instrument. Tuning after it settles is booked with your piano technician, not included in the removal quote.

How our piano removals service works

  1. 1

    Tell us the piano type

Upright or grand, approximate age and any known weak casters. Send photos of every stair and doorway on the path.

  2. 2

    We confirm crew and kit

You receive a quote that states crew size, any dismantling of legs on a grand and the time window we need.

  3. 3

    Move day

We protect floors, use trolleys where safe, carry in balance and secure the piano for the drive before unloading carefully.

Piano removals FAQs

Do you move pianos without tuning them?

We transport the piano. Tuning after the move is a separate appointment with a tuner once the instrument has settled.

Can you take a grand through a window?

We assess each job. Window hoists and crane work are arranged with specialist providers when that is the only safe route.

How many people carry an upright?

Usually three on stairs, two on level ground. We confirm in the quote after we see the access.

Will you move a piano with my other furniture?

Often yes on a house move, but the piano is loaded and secured on its own plan. Tell us the full inventory when you book.

What if the piano cannot fit?

We would rather say no before move day. If photos show an impossible turn, we discuss alternatives before you pay a deposit.
