Man and van in Manchester
Not every job needs a full house team. A man and van suits a few heavy items, a room of furniture or a short move when you already handle the boxes.

What's included
- 1One or two crew members matched to the weight and size of your load
- 2A van sized to the inventory, not an empty artic for three boxes
- 3Furniture blankets and straps for the items we carry
- 4Help loading and unloading at both addresses
- 5Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book
- 6A written quote valid for three months
What’s included
Man and van covers the items you list: a sofa and bed, a room of furniture, appliances or a run of boxed goods between two addresses. We bring blankets and straps, load safely and unload where you need items. It is a practical option when you are doing your own packing or only clearing part of a home.
The van size follows the inventory. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book, especially for glass, stone or anything unusually heavy.
If the list grows into a full flat or house, we will say so and quote the larger service instead of squeezing too much into one trip.
How our service works
Send a honest list with photos if anything is bulky. Include floor level, lift access and where a van can stop legally. We reply with a written quote that stays valid for three months.
On the day one or two crew members arrive with the van. They protect furniture, secure the load and drive to the second address. You point out rooms and they place items. When the agreed list is off the van, the job is done.
We do not disconnect plumbed appliances or wire electrics unless that is agreed separately with qualified trades.
What affects the cost
Weight and bulk matter more than box count. Stairs without a lift often mean a second pair of hands. Multiple collections or drop-offs add road time and handling.
Parking in the centre or on busy terraces can shorten the stop at the kerb and lengthen the carry. The date you choose affects availability more than a magic formula on a price list.
For a figure tied to your list, request a quote with photos of the largest pieces.
Where we run man and van jobs
Student areas around Withington and Fallowfield see regular small moves between shared houses. Hulme and city fringe flats often need a compact van and a tight stair plan. Chorlton terraces may mean parking away from the door and carrying down the path.
Our Manchester removals page lists every service, including full house and flat moves when your job outgrows a single van load.
What fits a man and van day
Typical jobs include a bedroom swap between shared houses, a marketplace sofa, white goods when plumbing is already disconnected, and ten to fifteen boxes between two Manchester postcodes. If wardrobes multiply or the garage is included, we will suggest a larger crew before move day rather than making extra trips you did not budget for. Clear access and a finished pack list keep the job inside the time we quoted.
What affects the cost
Size and weight
A sofa and a washer need more hands than flat-pack chairs and boxes.
Stairs and carry distance
A third-floor walk-up without a lift changes the crew size and the time on site.
Number of stops
Collection from a shop plus delivery home, or two drop-offs, adds driving and handling time.
Parking and access
City-centre stops and narrow terraces may mean a longer carry from a lawful parking spot.
Date
Popular weekends book ahead. A weekday slot is often easier to find.

We confirm van and time
You get a quote with the planned duration and any extra crew if the load needs it.
- 3
Load, drive, unload
The crew arrives at the agreed time, protects items in the van and places them where you point at the other end.
Man and van FAQs
Is this the same as a full house move?
No. Man and van is for smaller loads or partial moves. A whole house usually needs a larger crew and vehicle from our house service.
Can I ride in the van?
Insurance rules mean passengers cannot travel in the back of the removal van. Follow the crew in your own car or use public transport.
Do you help with flat-pack assembly?
We focus on moving, not building new furniture. We can place flat-pack items where you want them if boxes are already built.
How far will you travel?
Local runs across Manchester are common. Longer journeys are possible. Tell us both postcodes when you quote.
Can I book just one hour?
We quote for the job, not a stopwatch on the pavement. Tell us the list and access and we will say how long we expect it to take.
